I see you are buying peanuts now. You are a softie. Trouble with animals is if you get to know them you grow fond of them, isn't it? I think they grow fond of us as well.
I enjoyed your story about Lucy. I have made piece with squirrels but the feeders the squirrels like are a distance from viewing window. I need to move it closer so I can observe them. They are very greedy appetites for unhulled sunflower seed.
Oh, no! I just read this week that coyotes and raccoons were breaching dog doors. A friend in Texas had a beagle that chased a skunk through a dog door. Insurance replaced her carpet, cabinets, and paint. It really created a stink!

Yes, but just for the aged Lucy. The birds get a good share, too.
What an evocative post. Descriptive, informative, and bittersweet. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much, Beth.

Thanks for reading, Teresa. Squirrels can really shovel it down, can’t they? Birds can’t compete with them.
Such a beautiful tribute to our wild cousins and those that are called to care for them.
Thank you, MK. I was missing my former neighbors and thinking that Lucy may have borne her last litter. It seemed like a good time to honor them now.
Our problem isn’t squirrels. It’s raccoons.
One came into our kitchen last night through our cat doors. We will have to close them after our four cats come in.
